Crazy Frog Racer is a series of licensed racing games centered around Crazy Frog. The series began after Wallaroo Licensing Company, representing Erik Wernquist licensed Crazy Frog for the electronic entertainment market to dtp Entertainment for GameBoy Advance and Digital Jesters for all other platforms.[1][2][3]

Following the release of the first game, Digital Jesters went out of business following an investigation[4], and the license to Crazy Frog video games was given to Mercury Games. Following the release of Crazy Frog Racer 2, licenses to create phone and web games was given to MobilityZone.[5] Due to all rights-holding companies for Crazy Frog Racer and its characters no longer existing, there are no future plans for another installment of the franchise.

Characters

New characters were introduced into the franchise, designed by Digital Jesters. These characters would not reappear in other Crazy Frog media.

A separate set of characters, designed by Michael Hoffmann and Tanja Hollingsausen of Independent Arts Software, was only used in Crazy Frog Racer GBA.[6]

Unique Mechanics

The Crazy Frog Racer series is typical of other kart racing games, such as Mario Kart. The series has a few unique mechanics to set itself apart from the rest, however.

Power-ups, called "bonuses" in Crazy Frog Racer, are not collected randomly, but instead "bought" while driving. The player collects coins on the track, and is able to select which bonus they would like to use at the given moment. More powerful bonuses cost more coins. Each character have different sets of bonuses which they can choose from, further setting apart characters besides their stats.

Players also have a "vehicle condition" gauge, which gets depleted as other players attack. Depleting the gauge entirely causes the player to wipe out, and can be replenished by collecting nuts and bolts found on the track.
